BULAWAYO - Schools in Matabeleland will be closed Thursday and Friday to pave way for President Robert Mugabe’s 93rd lavish bash set for Matobo.

The directive was issued by the Education and Secondary Ministry today.

According to a circular issued to parents at a Bulawayo school, pupils will not report for school on 23 and 24 February to make way for Mugabe’s party set for Rhodes Estate Preparatory School (REPS) in Matobo district in Matabeleland South Saturday.

The circular reads: “We have received communication from the Ministry of Education informing us to close school between tomorrow and Friday to enable people to join in the celebrations for the February 21st Movement which is being held in Mat South this year.”

Mugabe turned 93 on 21 February amid calls from opposition parties and citizens for him to step down.

The President has also been criticized for splashing thousands of dollars on the bash in a sinking economy.
